Although there are signs that the bad economy may be reaching toward a recovery, times are still difficult. Personal finances are a big problem in the world. The restaurant owners say that their business has dropped off in sales and that many customers are staying away. That is hard to believe if you look at the long lines at some restaurants. It is not easy to get reservations at some of the upscale restaurants as they continue to do what looks like a booming business.
The weather is becoming warmer, and eating outdoors is pleasant. Restaurants which have outdoor seating appear to be doing a great business. People are still eating out in large numbers. Yet others are staying home in order to save money.
One industry which shows no sign of letting up is network marketing (MLM or multi-level marketing as the industry is also called). Many companies and people involved are doing extremely well. People join the companies which use this method of marketing each day, and new companies also enter the arena. This business model works on the premise that people will be paid on the efforts of those signed up under them as well as for the work that they do themselves. This may go for several or many levels deep or wide. Network marketing continues to make millionaires who see phenomenal financial success with their businesses. Although it is well known that most people fail at this industry, the hope is alive and people still try.
As the people who have become millionaires and the people who are not hurting financially look around them, they may see others for whom the economy has not been kind. There are those who have lost jobs and their livelihood. The rich may have had their investment values reduced, but they may still be living comfortably. Others may be suffering anguish and despair as they wonder how they can make it.
Family members could be suffering in silence without trying to ask for help. It behooves us all to be in tune to the needs of others and to do what we can to help. A recent lottery winner was asked what he would do first with his newfound winnings of millions of dollars. He said he would try to help others who need help, his alma mater, and his church. What and how he will help remains to be seen. However, his attitude is good as he is thinking of others.
When Japanese Americans and their immigrant parents were forced from their West Coast homes and incarcerated in camps during World War II. They could have used a friend. Most people, including political leaders and media personnel, turned their backs on them. In fact, they expressed discrimination, prejudice, and hatred toward this whole segment of the population. One notable group which was kind to the people of Japanese descent were the American Friends or Quakers. They showed kindness and tried to help this persecuted group of people. They were in the distinct minority as they were being kind when few were.
If the economy has been good to us even in these unfortunate times and we have been able to maintain our lifestyles, it may be time to see what we can do to help others. The person on the street who is begging for handouts is in need. The people who have lost jobs or homes can use a helping hand. What goes around comes around, and helping others is almost always a good thing to do.
